Classic Açaí Bowls for breakfast
Friends, there are many food trends out there that are unwarranted.
However, when it comes to acai the buzz is 100 percent deserved! Rich in antioxidants, fiber, omega fatty acids and more, acai is a delicious Brazilian superfood that is known for its deep purple color and chocolaty berry undertones. I’ve been really into açaí bowls recently, and like most of my other superfood obsessions (goji berries, maca, chia seeds) I’m convinced that they’re making me smarter and younger. Fingers crossed.

Acai bowls are basically a really thick smoothie that’s been topped with granola, fresh fruit and/or nut butter, and then you eat it with a spoon. For breakfast. It’s so wonderfully sweet and fruity with the best texture ever. The mix of frozen banana and acai somehow turns the smoothie into the creamiest, almost silky consistency which just melts-in-your-mouth. It’s what breakfast dreams are made of. After eating a bowl, you will not only feel happily full (for hours) you will have also satisfied a sweet craving (no need for pastries) And did I mention it’s beautiful? It’s really, really ridiculously good looking.
Win win.
Here in the United States, acai berries come in a frozen puree. They can be found in the freezer section of local grocery stores, health food stores, Whole Foods, or purchased online through Amazon or on the website of one of the biggest producer, Sambazon. When making your acai bowl, it is super important that you get the right texture. You want a consistency that is thick enough to be scoopable, but not so dense that it doesn’t blend all the way. Normally, a mixture of acai puree with frozen fruit (blueberries, bananas or strawberries) plus almond or coconut milk (to thin it out and add creaminess) will get you just the texture you need.
Feel good about your breakfast choice.
