A Winter Detox Smoothie

This smoothie is simultaneously cleansing & hydrating.

I love to drink smoothies year round, but if you tend to think of them as a warm weather beverage, this winter number is about to change your mind. Sweet, refreshing and satisfying, drinking this breakfast delight is like a vacation for your taste buds. Banana and blueberries are a heavenly pair, coconut water is insanely hydrating but it’s the cilantro that’s the game changer here.

Yes, I’m obsessed with cilantro.

I love it in pesto, soups, salad and even my smoothies. I know not everyone loves cilantro, however, cilantro has some amazing benefits for the body. In addition to its subtle flavor, cilantro rids the body of heavy metals, lowers blood sugar levels, protects against oxidative stress & cardiovascular disease.

A Winter Detox Smoothie

1 banana, fresh (or frozen for a creamier smoothie)
1 cup wild blueberries (I use Wyman’s of Maine)
1 cup loosely packed organic cilantro
1 organic orange, peeled
Coconut water to blend (start with one cup and if a thinner consistency is desired, add more)

Directions:
In a high speed blender, blend all ingredients until smooth. Enjoy, friends!
